About Me

Hello, I am Kathryn

I am a cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist based in York, working with people one to one and online across the UK. I know how isolating IBS can be, and how wearing it is to be told your tests are clear while you still feel awful. So let me say this plainly: your symptoms are real, you are not imagining them, and you are not the problem.

My specialist IBS training was developed and delivered by an NHS consultant gastroenterologist, so the work is grounded in the same clinical frameworks used in gastroenterology: proper assessment, red-flag awareness, safe and structured practice. This is not hypnosis on its own. I use cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy, which brings together cognitive behavioural techniques, mindfulness and gut-directed hypnotherapy, all aimed at the same gut-brain pattern that keeps your symptoms going.

What you will not get from me is a longer list of foods to fear, or a cheerful "just relax". What you will get is someone who takes your gut seriously, works alongside your medical care, and gives you a calmer, more in control way to live with it.

Whatever you decide, I want you to leave knowing your symptoms are real, they are physically grounded, and you can feel calmer and more in control of how you live with them. You do not have to keep shrinking your life to fit them.

Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for medical care and does not diagnose or treat IBS. Gut-directed hypnotherapy is referenced in the UK clinical guidelines for irritable bowel syndrome: the British Society of Gastroenterology guideline includes a recommendation for it, and NICE suggests healthcare professionals consider referral for psychological therapies, including hypnotherapy, for people whose IBS has not responded to first-line treatment after 12 months. Results vary from person to person and no approach helps everyone. This site is for information only. Please get a diagnosis from your GP and see your GP about any new, changing or persistent symptoms, so that other conditions can be ruled out.
